The word “sleepy” is code for no noisy dining and drinking venues. Both have taken us to a new world of driving, when high speed driving became a norm. Well, its not just about speed, its capability and handling, agility and fun. It was a pity the bimmer was so shortlived, and came the replacement, which is somewhat better in performance and handling – the GTI. Full satisfaction in the driving experience, though this was marred by the protracted mechanical problems mentioned above. Now the car had been fixed, we are back enjoying the drive, indeed I would still rate the GTI well above the Merc in term of performance and handling, no doubt.<br /><br />The front seats come with electronic control (for both driver and passenger) allowing individual control of seat height, recline and headrest, of course you can preset the seat which can hold up to 4 different custom sets. Overall the interior looks more complex but organised compared to the GTI. There is an intuitive way to connect your phone/iPad to the bluetooth so all the phone calls or music/stereo can be enjoyed on the car speakers. The bluetooth connection (for calls and stereo) works very well, though it fails sometimes, which I found the best remedy by turning off the stereo, and on again, the bluetooth connection will resume automatically.<br /><br /><h2 id="toc-3">Wat Kalayanamit, Bangkok</h2><br /><br />That’s it, that brings the prospect of failure much closer. So I tried again, eyes getting tired, and repeated attempt with the same device, same approach only brought about same disappointment. Retrograde CTO intervention is fairly rare in our centre and a mere attempt at doing it will make news headline. Alas, as is always the case, there were lack of equipments, no long microcatheter, no extra soft wires etc, so the procedure is impossible to do. Anyway, back to light bulb story, I must thank Pan who promptly spotted the ailing chain, gave me the right advise and let me ride away the Bobber.<br /><br />Fit the budget quite well, its still an expensive car, but with the 0% GST (purchased just after the change of government in June 2018), and a special discount from MBM fleet sales/loyalty support program of almost RM10k, we enjoyed close to RM24k of saving. Well, perhaps we did consider this prestige brand 4 years ago, when we were doing survey on our next car as replacement to the bimmer that caught fire. Back then, the new C Class was just about to come to market, the CBU version, priced at around RM280k, with limited availabitlity, so I said forget it….then we ended up with the Golf GTI.<br /><br />However, changing from standard or comfort mode to sports requires a real manual work, using the button located on the armrest. Once you are on it, driving feels lighter and more responsive, flooring the accelerater will start a noisy engine roar, sounds a bit of a struggle to propel the huge mass, definitely unlike the GTI that is ever willing and smooth. The ‘sport’ mode is perhaps the better mode to drive all along, though it cuts the max gear speed to 7 which obviously drains more of your petrol.<br /><br /> |
