Duress alarms are personal alert devices that allow individuals to call for help if they feel threatened or in distress. This can be from a patient turning aggressive, the elderly needing immediate medical attention or even from a fire or theft.

Depending on the model of duress alarm and whether it is connected to an internal escalation system or a monitored response service like Tunstall’s Connected Care, a user can either press the help button on the device or speak with a care consultant via the alarm device and their call will be answered immediately and responded to within 2 minutes of activating. Then the emergency contacts will be contacted and someone will be there to talk to the user until help arrives.

A duress alarm can be installed in buildings and offices or in vehicles. This can be a great solution for lone workers, teams of workers and visitors to your premises.

Vehicle based duress solutions are particularly effective for visitors and temporary workers as they may not be familiar with the safety measures or emergency action plans that have been put in place for your workplace. This is especially important if a visitor or temporary worker needs help getting out of the building during a fire alarm.
