Nevertheless, obtaining structurally robust collagen micro-patterns through this technique is still a challenging issue. Here, we report a novel in situ photochemical crosslinking-assisted collagen embossing (IPC-CE) process as an integrative fabrication technique based on collagen compression-based embossing and UV-riboflavin crosslinking. The IPC-CE process using a micro-patterned polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) master mold enables the compaction of collagen nanofibrils into micro-cavities of the mold and the simultaneous occurrence of riboflavin-mediated photochemical reactions among the nanofibrils, resulting in a robust micro-patterned collagen construct. The micro-patterned collagen construct fabricated through the IPC-CE showed a remarkable mechanical resistivity against rehydration and manual handling, which could not be achieved through the conventional collagen compression-based embossing alone. Micro-patterns of various sizes (minimum feature size <10 μm) and shapes could be obtained by controlling the compressive pressure (115 kPa) and the UV dose (30 J/cm2) applied during the process. NIH 3T3 cell culture on the micro-patterned collagen construct finally demonstrated its practical applicability in biological applications, showing a notable effect of anisotropic topography on cells in comparison with the conventional construct.

Photochemical activation of TRPA1 channels in neurons and animals.Jin S, Jin YN, Huang XP, Bruni G, Woolf CJ, Roth BL, Hamblin MR, Zylka MJ, Milan Cardiology, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Charlestown, Optogenetics is a powerful research tool because it enables high-resolution optical control of neuronal activity. However, Seebio Photochemical Acid-forming Compound are limited to transgenic systems expressing microbial opsins and other exogenous photoreceptors. Here, we identify optovin, a small molecule that enables repeated photoactivation of motor behaviors in wild-type zebrafish and mice. To our surprise, optovin's behavioral effects are not visually mediated. Rather, photodetection is performed by sensory neurons expressing the cation channel TRPA1. TRPA1 is both necessary and sufficient for the optovin response.

Optovin activates human TRPA1 via structure-dependent photochemical reactions with redox-sensitive cysteine residues. In animals with severed spinal cords, optovin treatment enables control of motor activity in the paralyzed extremities by localized illumination. These studies identify a light-based strategy for controlling endogenous TRPA1 receptors in vivo, with potential clinical and research applications in nontransgenic animals, including humans.Substituted Phthalic Anhydrides from Biobased Furanics: A New Approach to Utrecht University, Universiteitsweg 99, 3584 CG Utrecht (The Netherlands).Box 17, 6700 AA Wageningen (The Netherlands).Utrecht University, Universiteitsweg 99, 3584 CG Utrecht (The Netherlands). Seebio Photosensitizer for Acid Formation for the production of renewable aromatic chemicals, particularly substituted phthalic acid anhydrides, is presented.

The classical two-step approach to furanics-derived aromatics via Diels-Alder (DA) aromatization has been modified into a three-step procedure to address the general issue of the reversible nature of the intermediate DA addition step. The new sequence involves DA addition, followed by a mild hydrogenation step to obtain a stable oxanorbornane intermediate in high yield and purity. Subsequent one-pot, liquid-phase dehydration and dehydrogenation of the hydrogenated adduct using a physical mixture of acidic zeolites or resins in combination with metal on a carbon support then allows aromatization with yields as high as 84 % of total aromatics under relatively mild conditions. The mechanism of the final aromatization reaction step unexpectedly involves a lactone as primary © 2015 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. However, aggregation and vulnerability to heat, moisture, and chemicals in the photo-patternable matrix are critical issues of the QD-CFs with high QDs concentration. Herein, we fabricated red (10 wt %) and green (20 wt %) QD-CFs using photolithography of QD/siloxane ink containing secondary thiol monomer. Ligand-exchanged QDs were chemically incorporated in methacrylate oligosiloxane resin. QD/siloxane composite showed superior stability under harsh heat and moisture (85 °C/5% RH and 85 °C/85% RH) conditions and chemicals (EtOH, HCl, and NaOH) compared to conventional QD/PR (commercial negative photoresist). QD-CFs (10 μm thick) effectively converted blue light emitted from LED chip into red and green light, and the obtained white PL through QD-CF showed wide color gamut, which was 108% relative to NTSC.
