Fiat 500 Key Fob Replacement

If your 500 keyfob stops functioning, try another to test if it will be recognized by the car. If it does, the issue may be with the battery or water damage on the fob that was originally used.

Replace the battery first. The "+" side should be facing down.

Dead Battery

The majority of the time, when a fob won't work, it's because the battery is dying. This is a simple fix and the majority of fobs will provide you with a warning if the battery is dying. You can find the instructions on YouTube for almost every key fob on your vehicle or in the owner's manual. You can also replace it by taking it to a locksmith or dealer who has sold it to you.

Other times a fob can not function and there could be a problem with the internal circuit board. It's not a common occurrence but it is possible to happen. The internal chip could be damaged when you drop the fob on something that is hard. It could also happen if you are using an aftermarket fob and the key does not work. In this situation you'll need to go to an authorized locksmith or dealer and get it reprogRammed to work with your 500.

Chips damaged

Fiat 500 key fobs are wireless devices that transmit an electronic signal to the car whenever you press the button. It has a microchip which has information about the code which is required to communicate with the car. If the chip is damaged, it won't send the correct code, and the car will not start. Locksmiths can repair this type of damage. United Locksmith is capable of completing this service for classic models as well, as for newer ones, so don't feel in a rush to call them.

You can buy a new fob and have it professionally programmed by a locksmith. This is much cheaper than going to a dealer and it works similarly. Locksmiths will require specific details from you, such as the year your car was manufactured and the model's name.

If you're not sure of the best solution to this problem, try scratching the chip with a US dollar bill. The copper in the bill is abrasive, and will remove oxidation and dirt. However, it will not cause harm to the microchip. If the chip is physically damaged it might not be in a position to be repaired. This can happen when you drop it, knock it over with your vehicle or any other type of physical stress.

G28 Car Keys is likely to happen on your fob, no matter if you dropped them in the pool unintentionally, left them in the pocket while swimming, or splashed them with water during a rainy afternoon. Even if you only have a small amount of water on its key, it could cause serious problems for the electronics inside and stop it from functioning effectively.

You can usually solve this problem by getting rid of the fob and then cleaning it with a paper towel. Once the fob is dry you can then replace its battery and it will start functioning normally.

You can also take the fob to a local locksmith or auto shop to have it professionally cleaned and programmed. These professionals can use special equipment to make sure that the key fob is compatible with the computer in your car.

If the key fob of your Fiat 500 stops working, you may be frustrated and overwhelmed. It can be expensive and difficult to transport your key fob to a dealer. Locksmiths can take care of every aspect of your car's key fob replacement without the requirement of a dealership trip. This is why they are a better choice than an auto dealer.

Pairing Issues

If you accidentally drop your keyfob or it stops functioning and nothing else appears to be wrong, it could be the chip. It could be because of water damage or the battery is dead.

Most of the time, this can be accomplished by following the instructions in the owner's manual. If you're having issues or your manual isn't working, you should have an automotive locksmith complete this task. This will ensure that your chip isn't fried and will likely be the most cost-effective solution.

Another issue that plagues some 500 owners is that the key fob doesn't secure the car. This could be a problem if you want to fill up at gas stations. Some owners have reported the locking mechanism on their 500's failing and requiring replacement of the entire intermediate shaft for steering. Fiat has actually mentioned this problem in a technical bulletin (TSB).

If you're having trouble with your Fiat or other car, an experienced locksmith could help. They can duplicate the key you have or create a new one that locks and starts the car. They can do this without seeing your old key and are generally more affordable than purchasing it from the dealership.
