We propose to embed proteinaceous networks into a mechanically robust photoresist microscaffold. We investigate the limits of this 3D microfabrication of embedded proteinaceous networks and demonstrate the embedment of two different proteinaceous networks within one microscaffold. Performing cell culture of PC12 cells, we observe cell adhesion and cell motility on embedded proteinaceous networks of collagen type-IV mixed with bovine serum albumin into a photoresist microscaffold. The ability to structure proteinaceous elements for 3D spatial control of microenvironment might be a key feature in cell culture to decouple environmental cues to control cellular Photochemically induced thalamus infarction impairs cognition in a mouse model.BACKGROUND: Small subcortical infarcts account for up to 25% of ischaemic strokes. Thalamus is one of the subcortical structures that commonly manifest with lacunar infarcts on MRI of the brain.

Studies have shown that thalamus infarction is associated with cognitive decline. However, salcaprozate to the lack of proper animal models, little is known about the mechanism. We aimed to establish a focal thalamus infarction model, characterise the infarct lesion and assess METHODS: Male C57BL/6J mice were anaesthetised, and Rose Bengal dye was injected through the tail vein. The right thalamus was illuminated with green laser light by stereotactic implantation of optic fibre. Characteristics of the infarct and lesion evolution were evaluated by histological analysis and 7T MRI at various times. The cognitive and neurological functions were assessed by behavioural tests. Retrograde tracing was performed to analyse neural connections.

RESULTS: An ischaemic lesion with small vessel occlusion was observed in the thalamus. It became a small circumscribed infarct with reactive astrocytes accumulated in the infarct periphery on day 21. The mice with thalamic infarction demonstrated impaired learning and memory without significant neurological deficits. Retrogradely labelled neurons in the retrosplenial CONCLUSION: This study established a mouse model of thalamic lacunar infarction that exhibits cognitive impairment. Neural connection dysfunctions may play a potential role in post-stroke cognitive impairment. This model helps to clarify the pathophysiology of post-stroke cognitive impairment and to develop potential commercial re-use. See rights and permissions.

Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)-based appliances are widely used in dentistry. Hence, the present study aimed to evaluate the role of nanodiamonds (NDs) as fillers to enhance the resistance to friction and wear. Using a solution-based mixing technique, 0 wt% ND was incorporated into the PMMA, and specimens were 3D-printed for tribological and bacterial analysis. The control specimens without ND fillers were tested against specimens with both amine-functionalized NDs (A-ND) and pure non-functionalized NDs (ND). The surface hardness test revealed a statistically significant increase in the Vickers micro-hardness (p < 001) in the nanocomposite groups.

There was a significant reduction in the coefficient of friction (COF) (p < 01) in both the ND and A-ND nanocomposites compared to the stainless steel (SS) counter surfaces. However, for salcaprozate sodium (Ti)-based specimens, the COF of the control group was similar to that of A-ND but lower than that of ND. The wear resistance evaluation revealed that both the ND and A-ND groups displayed enhanced resistance to surface loss in comparison to the controls for both SS and Ti counter-surfaces (p < 001). Furthermore, both A-ND and ND exhibited significantly enhanced resistance to the formation of Streptococcus mutans biofilms after 48 h (p < 01) compared to the control group. Hence, we concluded that the addition of 0 wt% ND in the PMMA-based resin for 3D printing resulted in significant improvement in properties such as COF, wear resistance, and resistance to S. mutans, without any notable impact associated with the functionalization of the NDs.Diffraction characteristics of photoresist surface-relief gratings.

The redox properties of CGO and its high selectivity towards hydrogen oxidation enable an efficient periodic MDA reaction/regeneration process, leading to improved methane aromatization.
