Twilight Princess Game Review

The darkest and most serious of the Nintendo 3D Zelda games, Twilight Princess pushes the limits of graphics to the final limits on the Wii's hardware. It's darker and more disturbing than The Wind Waker. There aren't any bug-eyed pigs nor effeminate Pirates.

Link is attracted to a parallel dimension known as Twilight Realm where he takes the form of Hylian wolf and Hylian wolf and the form of a Hylian while being guided Midna.

Gameplay

The thirteenth installment in The Legend of Zelda is Twilight Princess. It was released on the Nintendo GameCube and Wii systems in the year 2006. Critics praised the game and gave it perfect scores in several publications including 1UP CVG EGM and GamesRadar. Many consider it to be the best game in the franchise and the most popular Zelda game on the PAL market.

Twilight princess features an artistic and naturalistic graphic style, like that of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, with a much more advanced graphic engine. It's the first game in the series with a completely directional control scheme instead of a fixed viewpoint like previous games. This change was made to accommodate the Wii console's pointing-based interface. The GameCube version has an area at the back of the game, with mirror-image maps for those who prefer an unchanging view.

Link transforms into a wolf when he enters the Twilight Realm. He also meets Midna, an enigmatic creature. starlight princess informs Link that the kingdom of Hyrule is being taken by a group of shadow creatures led by the evil sorcerer Zant. She also explains that she is the true ruler of Twili but was taken over and cursed to her current form by Zant.

A short cutscene shows the soldiers being slain by shadow creatures when Link and Midna arrive at Hyrule Castle. Link and Midna then escape the castle via a tunnel to enter the Twilight Realm.

In the Twilight Realm, Link can use his wolf form to move around more freely throughout the world. Link can also use his senses to navigate around the world. For example, he can detect the spirits of deceased soldiers and other animals that are in the distance. He can also pick grass from specific patches and whistle with it to call an animal, like an Hawk or Epona. Alternately, Link can howl near these patches to summon the same animal.

Like previous Zelda games, music plays a large role in Twilight Princess. Link can play an instrument of music, such as the flute or harp to draw attention to and summon animals. He can also command the form of a wolf by speaking. Additionally, he could use his compass to guide him through the world and avoid getting lost.

Characters

The Legend of Zelda is full of unique and colorful characters that will leave an impression that will last forever. These quirky and unique characters such as hands emerging from the toilets to pirates sailing across vast oceans are the heart of the game. Twilight Princess continues the tradition of previous games by introducing a wide range of memorable characters.

Through the course of the story, Link meets new NPCs who are not just interesting, but also believable. It's a big improvement that so many of these NPCs aren't just victims they actually have a role to play in the story. NPCs like Rusl who explains that the forest is dangerous and kidnaps children as well as the Ordon villager who disguises himself as a wolf while the kids are kidnapped each has their own unique personality.

Other notable characters include Iza who runs the Boat Rental Cabin as well as Iza's Rapid Ride in the Lanayru Province, Louise, the cat of Telma who helps Wolf Link locate a secret passageway in her bar and sewer system into the castle, and Faron who's spirit helps guide Link and Midna to the Forest Temple in the Eldin Province. The duo defeats the Fused Shadow possessed by Diababa and receives the first Tear of Light.

Midna is the princess of the Twilight Realm and one of the most intriguing characters in the game. She is able to switch between her human and wolf forms and is a part of the Triforce of Wisdom. She is friends with Link and shares with him her experiences in the twilight, and how she defeated Zant the king of Twilight.

Zant is the evil sorcerer who rules the Twilight Realm. He possesses the second part of the Triforce of Wisdom. The goddesses relegated him to the Twilight Realm for enslaving their people and taking over their territory. Zant's magic enables him to remain in wolf form, but Midna removes the power and allows him to transform into his human form when needed.

Epona is a better horse that can be riding in both Wolf and Hylian forms. Link can whistle at certain patches of grass in order to call the animal. (similar to Majora’s Mask). Twilight Princess is the first game in the series where the player can name their horse.

Theme

Music is a crucial element of any Zelda title. It can make a game seem epic as well as expansive and thrilling. Twilight Princess' soundtrack is criticised for being inconsistent and intermittent and doesn't convey certain moments of emotion. In contrast, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask have captivating music that bloom at the right moment to create a sense of majestic and eerie.

Twilight Princess was composed by Asuka Ohta and Toru Minegishi. Koji Kondo, the composer of the series for the first time since Wind Waker was in charge of overseeing the composers. The soundtrack for Twilight Princess is a radical departure from the typical approach to the series, and features a the minimalist approach to melody and arrangements. Most field and dungeon music starts with a single instrumental that creates a mystical and atmospheric ambiance for the player. Midna's Lament, for instance is a song that uses a keyboard to create a sense of sadness in the player.

Dungeon themes are among the most prominent examples of this trend towards minimalism, with a number of Dungeons displaying a dark and ominous ambience. This is evident in the Twilight Realm theme, which has a sonic landscape that would be at home on the soundtrack to a David Lynch film. The ominous and unsettling nature of the track is amplified by the absence of recognizable melodies and the traditional arrangement with dreary drones and peculiar patterns interspersed to create a dark and bleak sound.

Link's hometown song, "Faron Woods," is a more upbeat and joyful song. This song uses a variety gentle sounds and strings to create a tranquil and secure experience for the player. The song has a subtle nod to the most famous scene in the franchise, because it has a riff that is similar to the famous melody that plays at Ocarina of Time's beginning.

There are also some exciting songs in Twilight Princess that change depending on where the player is and what they're doing, and what's happening. Hyrule Castle Town has different versions of its theme for each region of the town. Central Square, for example, has an edgier version. These variations are a nice feature that adds an element of depth and immersion into the world of Hyrule.

Story

Link's mission in Twilight Princess is to save Hyrule from the corrupted parallel universe known as the Twilight Realm. To achieve this, Link adopts the form of a Hylian, as well as a Wolf and is aided by a woman named Midna.

Midna was the first ruler of Twili but she was supplanted and cursed by Zant to transform into her imp form. The Sages of the past explain to Link and Midna that only the defeat of Ganondorf can be the key to their release from their curse. The Sages then reveal that the Mirror of Twilight is the source of the darkness that exists in the Twilight Realm. Midna and Link travel to the Spirit's Spring, where they encounter monsters that are hostile and kidnap children. Using Wolf Link's acute sense of smell, they track the children's scent to a bridge before they move into the Twilight Realm.

They enter the Forest Temple, battle Diababa and get the first Fused Shadow. Faron then informs them of the next destination, the Eldin Province in the west (Wii), or east (GCN).

Midna, at the Lakebed Temple of Lanayru teleports Link to a fiery rock and uses her powers on the ice beneath Lake Hylia. The spirit of the recently deceased Zora Queen, Rutela, then appears and informs Link that he has to visit the Lakebed Temple in order to access a treasure of the Zora.

Returning from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask The horse Epona can again be riding in Twilight Princess. Contrary to the name of the set used in the two previously mentioned games, Link can now decide the name of the horse by himself.

After arriving in the Twilight Realm, Midna and Link recover the remaining Mirror Shards. In the Palace of Twilight, the Sages inform them that Midna is actually the true ruler of the Twili, but she had been passed over for the monarchy and turned to the gods for power. The Sages also inform them that the only way to defeat Ganondorf is to bring him to the light and break the pact between the Twilight and Hyrule kingdoms.
