After you've replaced the coin cell battery, you can test it by standing near your Fiat 500 and pressing the buttons. The car should flash its parking lights, and the key fob should be able to operate the lock and unlock switches.

If your key fob still isn't working after replacing the battery, there may be water damage that prevents it from communicating with the module in your vehicle. Water damage can occur through a variety of methods, including the simple splash or submerging the key fob saltwater at the beach. If you suspect your fob was exposed to water, put it in a dry rice bag to pull the moisture out. If this doesn't work, you will require your fob to be reprogrammed either by an auto locksmith or dealer.

Receiver Module Issues

One of the simplest reasons why your 500 key fob could stop working is because it's out of range. The remote usually has a range of 30 feet or less, and if it's too far from your vehicle, it won't respond to your commands. It can be solved by moving closer to your vehicle until it begins responding.

If you've replaced the battery in your coin (commonly called"button" or "button" or "watch") and the fob isn't working it could be due to an internal circuit board problem. Reprogramming the fob is usually the solution to this issue. You can find instructions on how to do this on the majority of vehicles by searching YouTube or looking through the owner's manual.

You may have to replace the metal clips that keep the coin battery. If they lose tension it can prevent your coin battery from sitting properly, causing your remote to malfunction.

This can occur when the keyfob is in close proximity to a radio transmitter like a cellphone or radar detector. Other reasons why the key fob may not function include a weak connection to the buttons and internal chip, or water damage.

If your key fob suddenly stopped working, or if you have tried everything at home to solve the issue (e.g. replacing the battery, reprogramming it and using the spare key fob, you may have a defective receiver module on your 500. The receiver module, located under the dashboard, detects radio frequency signals from your key fob. It converts the signals into electronic commands which are then read by the vehicle.

Fortunately, there's an easy method of resetting all of the on-board systems in your 500 and include the key fob. Disconnect the battery for 15 minutes, removing first the negative cable, then the positive cable. Then, reconnect the battery. This will get rid of any remaining electricity and then restart the car's computer system, which can help the key fob to function again. If the issue persists it is recommended that you consult an expert technician. They can identify the root of any problems.
