A worker has a right to understand the risks involved in handling and using hazardous products. This includes the safety data sheets, labels and other information provided by employers. WHMIS provides additional guidance to help workers recognize and control hazards.

Employers are required to provide workers with WHMIS training. The training should be developed in consultation with a health and safety representative, and should be related to prevention programs. It is important to review the program annually to determine if the training has been effective.

Employers are also responsible for ensuring that WHMIS-controlled products are properly labelled. In addition, a workplace label must be updated when significant new data about a product is available. Specifically, this applies to tank trucks and tank cars, as well as any hazardous products.

The OHSA also requires employers to ensure that their workers know about hazard information. For example, employers must provide their employees with bilingual safety data sheets (SDSs) and labels. They must also provide workers with information about the use and handling of a biological agent.

Similarly, the WHMIS Regulation states that manufacturers and suppliers of hazardous products must provide information on the SDSs, labels and other WHMIS materials. However, there are partial exemptions from these requirements for certain products. sos tracker
