It is typical for a window to be difficult to open since the hinges aren't as strong. Fortunately, this can be fixed by lubricating hinges with something similar to WD-40.

Broken or cracked glass

Glass is everywhere in our homes, in doors, windows, tables and surfaces, the front of stoves and microwaves, and even in picture frames. Windows can break due to a good hit or rough-housing between friends. They need to be repaired before they worsen. The gasket on the window can become soft or separate from the frame. This could lead to loss of insulation and also the introduction of cold air, or even water into your home. This can be easily repaired with a flat blade such as a bank card to separate the gasket from the frame of the window. If you've got a amount of time on your hands, you can also apply a bit of epoxy to the crack to make it appear like the crack never existed in the first place.

If the crack is larger than you can reach with your fingers, you can use a piece of tape to block off the area from further damage. You can also use clear nail polish as a filler to stop the crack from spreading. It is essential to act fast after noticing the crack. If you don't, it could spread and become more difficult to repair.

Follow the directions of the manufacturer for applying the epoxy. Once it has dried, apply a rag soaked in acetone to clean the surface.

Water Leaks

uPVC windows are very durable, but they require some maintenance and attention. They can cause a variety of problems if not maintained in a timely manner. These issues can range from leaking water around frames or even condensation within the glass units.

A skilled uPVC window repair specialist can help identify the problem and resolve it. They can also provide advice on how to prevent it from happening again in the future.

Leaking uPVC windows are a serious issue and it is essential that they are fixed as soon as is possible. If not addressed, the damage could cause significant damp issues to your home, resulting in expensive repairs and a reduction in energy efficiency.

A leaky uPVC can be fixed with a simple patch. It is a sealant that is applied to the interior of the window and will stop water from leaking into your home through the damaged region.

Misty or cloudy double glazed units are a sign that the seal within the panes of glass has failed. This could be due to a variety of reasons, such as wear and tear, age weather conditions, or simply age.

One method to avoid this is to have your windows cleaned regularly. It is recommended that you clean your windows at least two times each year using white soft cloth that has been soaked in warm soapy water. Avoid using colored cloths as they can leave stains of dye. For stains that are difficult to remove it is recommended to employ solvent PVC cleaner. This is available from any hardware store and is simple to apply. Remember to wipe the window frames in a shaded area away from direct sunlight to avoid streaks.

Incorrectly installed hinges or locks

Over time, the window hinge can be bent or damaged. This could lead to an opening in the frame, which can let draughts in and decrease energy efficiency. A draught can also make your home cold and uncomfortable and will increase your heating bills.

A gap in a window made of uPVC is a problem that can be resolved easily. A uPVC specialist will be able to determine the issue and fix it for you. A small hole can usually be filled with carpenter's adhesive and a dowel of wood inserted into the gap. The dowel should be placed so that it is flush with the hinge leaf and has a smooth surface. The carpenter's glue is spread on the dowel, and then tapped to secure it. Once it is dry and cured, a screw is installed to fix the hinge.

UPVC window hinges or locks may become stiff due to general wear and tear or due to blockages created by dirt or debris. They should be examined regularly and cleaned to ensure they function correctly. A lubricant such as WD-40 is recommended to keep the moving parts in good order.

A broken lock can pose a real security risk as it could mean that your home is not secured and could be vulnerable to burglars. A faulty lock can also cause your uPVC window or door difficult to open, which could be an inconvenience for you. If this is the problem you might need a new handle or align the multipoint locking system.

Stuck Handle

It can be quite frustrating when your upvc window handle becomes stuck, especially when you attempt to open the window and it requires a lot of force or doesn't open at all. The reason for this is an electrical wire in the handle holder that has become rough. It is usually possible to solve the issue by removing the handle to inspect the wire.

Another method to get this solved is to use a graphite or paraffin lubricant on the pole sliders which will then allow the handle to move between up and down. It's also a good time to give your handle a general cleaning to help avoid any future issues related to it.

If the problem is with the push button itself, it can be fixed by using superglue. RepairMyWindowsAndDoors must be completely dry prior to using it again. If the handle is completely damaged or broken it can be repaired by ordering a new one and screwing it in the right place. It is easy to repair this yourself if you have the right tools.
