“There are probably folks out there who don’t have a sense of design in their blood at all, but they're just keeping with what they need,” Clarke says. “They’re just keeping things simplistic, and that is also minimalism.” For example, someone who recognizes they don’t need an armchair because they always sit on the couch could be described as living within a minimalist home.

Owadays, a bedroom functions not only as a place for rest, but also as a place to work, study, or do hobbies. Nonetheless, many bedrooms only measure 2.5m x 2 m generally due to the factor of limited land size. We need a new bedroom design that can solve the problem of needed space, that is minimarisu. Though there is only a minimal space, the bedroom can be used to perform a variety of activities as well as the spacious room.

“It didn’t start, but it got defined as a style right between the ’60s and ’70s,” Clarke says. Generally when discussing minimalist homes, people imagine clutter-free rooms with white walls and a lack of any unnecessary furnishing or decor. The look is often seen as a close cousin to Scandinavian or Japanese interiors, where both cultures have long embraced a less-is-more ideology.

Modern homes tend to use clear lines, streamlined furnishings and neutral colours, although there are plenty of different design styles that use brighter tones as well. The whole idea is to generate harmony and class, without creating a boring place to spend time. Furniture is movable objects intended to support various human activities such as seating (e.g., chairs, stools, tables and sofas) and sleeping (e.g., beds). Furniture is also used to hold objects at a convenient height for work (as horizontal surfaces above the ground, such as tables and desks), or to store things (e.g., cupboards and shelves).

The interior designer may work on the project from the initial planning stage or may work on the remodelling of an existing structure. It is often a very involved process that takes months to fine-tune and create a space with the vision of the client. Fine examples of contemporary designers include Kelly Hoppen and David Collins who in keeping with current trends have both a strong media presence and successful independent business.

It also has many connections to other design disciplines, involving the work of architects, industrial designers, engineers, builders, craftsmen, etc. Perhaps the most important wisdom is to trust your vision, your taste, and your timeline. Add to it as necessary, or when you’re motivated or inspired.” As the only person who lives in your home, with the exception of family or roommates, focus on what brings you joy, rather than the opinions of others. “Whenever you get a home, everyone becomes an interior designer and has a million suggestions, but you have to live there, no one else lives there,” Bascom says, so take the time and energy to find the items to speak to you.

For example, both Cornell University and the University of Florida offer interior design graduate programs in environment and behavior studies. In the U.S., popular interior design & lifestyle shows include Martha Stewart Living and Living Large featuring Karen Mills. Famous interior designers whose work is featured on these programs include Bunny Williams, Barbara Barry, and Kathy Ireland, among others. Fictional interior decorators include the Sugarbaker sisters on Designing Women and Grace Adler on Will & Grace.

  • And although this may be an accurate way to describe our contemporary understanding of minimalist house design, there is much more to it than just this.

  • Interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interiors, sometimes including the exterior, of a space or building, to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the end user.

  • Though there is only a minimal space, the bedroom can be used to perform a variety of activities as well as the spacious room.

  • In many states, however, this path alone cannot lead to licensing as a professional interior designer.

Furniture can be a product of design and is considered a form of decorative art. In addition to furniture’s functional role, it can serve a symbolic or religious purpose. Furniture can be made using a variety of woodworking joints which often reflect the local culture.

However, as Bascom notes, “It’s definitely harder to design from that perspective.” Of course, when done correctly, this also means the finished look is that much more impressive. Additionally, Clarke says the style can be seen as a resistance to excess. “You think of the Rococo period and Gaudí and all of these over the top design elements, ornamentation, and beautiful artisanship,” she explains. In student rooms, you might consider features like fold up beds and wall mounted desks which can maximize the space available. White walls provide space for a wide array of posters, so that students can change their living environment as their tastes develop.

With Minimarisu room concept, beds, tables, cabinets and bookshelves are packed simple without compromising their functions. Generally, room measuring 2.5m x 2 m that contains standard furniture for a room only has a 32% movement space. So the space of a minimarisu room is felt bigger than the room in general. Surely thus minimarisu is suitable for densely populated area where people do not have a large enough land area. Minimarisu concept has a good prospect if the government and industry cooperate to mass-produce them. This is a household product that is needed by every household of low and middle social classes.
