dihydrocodeine 30mg pil is a semi-synthetic analogue of codeine, containing a single bond instead of the double bond found in the main chain of codeine. It is an opioid analgesic and antitussive agent, used to relieve pain and severe cough. It is also used to suppress nausea and vomiting caused by surgery, cancer chemotherapy or other conditions. Dihydrocodeine is a Schedule 1 drug in Hong Kong, meaning it can only be legally sold or supplied with a doctor’s prescription. It is not to be taken recreationally, as it can lead to addiction and is often abused for the euphoric high that it produces when large doses are consumed.

Dihydrocodeine works by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord to block out pain signals from the body. Its antitussive effects work by causing a reduction in the activity of muscles in the respiratory tract and abdomen, and it is also effective at reducing anxiety. It is also a sedative, which helps to reduce feelings of restlessness and confusion, making patients feel sleepy and relaxed.

Like many other opioids, dihydrocodeine can cause constipation in the gastrointestinal tract. This is caused by a reduction in the activity of smooth muscle in the antrum and duodenum, which can lead to a delay in digestion and a decrease in propulsive peristaltic contractions, thus inhibiting movement in the bowel. It can also affect the muscle tone in the colon, leading to spasm and constipation.
