The incidence of falls in the elderly population is a major public health concern. They cause high morbidity and mortality. Falls pose a great social, economic and psychological burden on the elderly.

Studies have found that age is a strong predictor of fall risk. More than half of elderly individuals have fallen at least once in their lifetime. However, many older people are reluctant to report a fall. This is due to fear of falling again and limiting their ability to function.

In order to prevent falls, physicians should review medications and other factors that may predispose an older patient to falls. Also, pharmacists should recommend lifestyle and living environment adjustments to reduce the risk of falling.

Exercise and balance training are effective methods to reduce the risk of falls. These programs also improve overall health, sleep, cardiovascular endurance, and flexibility. Some studies have shown that a home-based rehabilitation program can reduce the rate of falls by 20 percent.





The first section of the questionnaire consists of socio-demographic information. It includes questions on gender, age, educational level, marital status, and physical activity. A second section of the questionnaire assesses the number of falls experienced by participants. A third section discusses the use of assistive devices and medications. Lastly, a fourth section of the questionnaire focuses on the consequences of falling and a list of strategies for preventing falls.
