Medical alarm devices, also known as medi alert or nurse call systems, are equipment and an on-call monitoring service for people who require help after a fall. Our Reviews Team recommends monitored systems over unmonitored.

Monitored systems have additional features like location detection, which uses Wi-Fi, cellular data, and GPS radio signals from satellites to locate the user. They can also provide emergency responders with the user’s on-file medical information.

Unmonitored

There are medical alert devices that don’t require a monthly fee, which can be helpful for seniors who need a fall detection device but cannot afford the cost of a monitored system. These unmonitored systems use sensors, GPS technology, and cellular connections to detect falls and notify designated contacts or emergency services. While they may not offer the same level of protection as a monitored device, they can still give seniors and their loved ones peace of mind that help is just a button press away.

MobileHelp

MobileHelp’s systems are designed for those who want the security of a traditional in-home medical alert system but prefer the convenience of a portable device. Their mPERS (mobile personal emergency response) devices include a base station with two-way speaker and a help button that can be worn as a pendant or wristband. They also come with a free website portal and mobile app called MyGuardian that allows users and caregivers to keep track of their devices.

Bay Alarm Medical

Bay Alarm offers a traditional in-home system along with a GPS-enabled mobile unit that is one of the first of its kind. Their mPERS devices are available as a standalone product or you can save by bundling it with their in-home system. Each device is equipped with a wearable help button that can be activated by pressing the power button on the base station or using the paired wearable button. Caregivers can also stay on top of their loved ones’ mPERS devices with the Medical Alert Connect app, which allows them to monitor activity and set up notifications when a wearer presses their help button.

fall alert seniors LifeGuard Smartwatch
