Choosing a Double Pushchair Twin

If you have twins, you'll require a double pushchair to get them from A to B. Our range includes twin prams and buggies that can be configured in different ways to suit your needs.

Choose a stroller which can be folded in one step and then easily tucked away into your car. You may also want an ultra-light design that is easy to maneuver and navigate, particularly if you have busy high streets to navigate.

Side-by-Side

They are the most popular type of double pushchair that usually can accommodate two children side-by-side. They are generally wider than single pushchairs, which means they are less agile on footpaths and can be a bit difficult to navigate through the kerbs with a car attached. The extra size makes them easier to maneuver through doors, and they are more evenly distributed, so it is easier to carry around on your back.

Many models are able to be used as twin prams, and can accommodate a carrycot or two car seats. Some can even convert into a single mode with the basket (like the Cybex Venus).

One of the most excellent examples of this is the Bugaboo Donkey 5 which, in Twin Mode, allows you to put the rear seat and a carrycot side by side. This creates a fully enclosed space for twins and is perfect for babies. This pram is also equipped with a couple of really cool accessories, including the newborn cocoons which can be attached to face either way (for a twin-facing pram) or facing inwards (for a standard single). It is not as lightweight as some other options but it's incredibly well designed.

Lightweight

Cybex is renowned for its innovative pushchairs, and the single-to-double isn't an exception. Its clever frame expands widthways to take a second seat and you can use it as a twin from birth with the addition of two infant cocoons (PS59 each) which provide enclosed, lie-flat areas for infants. The large shopping basket behind the seat lets it be used in mono mode with just one child. And it has a rear and front suspensions that can handle bumps and uneven surfaces more easily. A top pick among our reviewers.

Tandem

If you're planning to have twins you will need a tandem pushchair. This will allow both children to sit together and interact with each one another. These are great for things like visiting the zoo, since the children can look at all the animals together. They're also perfect for parents who must keep an eye on their toddler and the other on their baby, as they can see both of them at the same time.

Some tandem pushchairs are incredibly flexible, as they can be converted to single mode. This is particularly useful for families with more than two children (or when your oldest child isn't a need for a buggy any longer). This will help you avoid having to store a buggy empty which can be expensive.

For example for instance, the Cybex Venus can be used in double or mono mode and has a smart frame that expands widthways to accommodate an extra seat. It's not the lightest pushchair however it does come with a large basket that can be placed behind the front seat when in double mode or at the rear when in mono mode. The seats can be placed to face each other, or one can be positioned higher up so it can see over the other and see what they are doing.

Double tandem pushchairs, like the Joolz Geo 3, are capable of seating one over the other or side by side. The sleek, compact frame makes it easier to navigate through doorways and supermarket aisles. Some models can be used on uneven terrain or for an exercise walk due to their wide rear wheels and four-wheel suspension.

A tandem pushchair can also be used to carry two carrycots or a car and buggy seat. This allows you to build a travel system from the outset and save money on separate purchases. Be aware that tandems are heavier and longer, and they may be less stable when you bump into kerbs and going over uneven surfaces. They also have to be dismantled for fitting into cars.
