Alina Boruchowska - a 58 year old woman from Sosnowiec - was born in the city of Sosnowiec in Poland and remembers a happy childhood with her family. They would visit her grandparents in Czestochowa quite often and enjoyed going to the theaters, Jewish stores, large factories and many small shops that made men's clothing. But all that changed on September 1st 1939 when the war broke out. Alina's parents Paula and Isador packed up their sterling silver, china, jewelry and valuables and left Sosnowiec to go live in Czestochowa with her grandparents. It was to be their last trip together before the war.

When the war was over, the family returned to Sosnowiec. The city was devastated and the only thing that was left of their wealth was a small house which they lived in with their two children Alina and Yisrael. In the beginning they tried to find work but could only find unskilled jobs. In time, the children grew up and left to study and start their own careers. Alina and Yisrael studied medicine and later Alina became a psychologist and Yisrael was a physician.

After the war, they moved to Germany. Joe had a tradesman job which allowed him to stay in the country and avoid being sent to a concentration camp like Auschwitz or Buchenwald. After a few years, they were both offered jobs in the same company in a small town in Germany near Munich. This was a better opportunity for their children and so they decided to move there.

The Foundation has statutory activities which include the purchase of medical equipment and financial support for medical centers from our region. Last year, the Foundation bought medicine and rehabilitation equipment for over 1170 people. fizjoterapia sosnowiec of this assistance amounted to kPLN 190 million.

Recently scientists from the Institute of Computer Science of the University of Silesia developed prototypes of computer games which will help patients with post-traumatic problems and rheumatological and orthopaedic disorders. These solutions were presented at the REHexpo Rehabilitation Fair in Katowice.

The project of the new swimming pool with sport function and facilities in Sosnowiec was designed as a simple, compact structure which respects the scale of neighboring buildings. The pool hall was glazed with a large window which allows the light to filter through it and brightens the area. The architectural form is modern, simple and inscribed in the environment.
