The iRobot Roomba 980 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Robot vacuums nab pet hair, lint, and dust off floors before they can settle. They can also avoid stairs and other obstacles like furniture that can tip.

The majority of robotic vacuums require maintenance, such as emptying (and occasionally, rinsing) the bin and wiping sensors and cameras. Additionally, they must be connected to the power source. Many have smartphone apps to schedule, adjust settings and more.

Roomba 960 by iRobot

The iRobot Roomba 980, the most recent of a series of top-of-the-line robot vacuums, is a staple for every modern home. cleaning solutions is equipped with a HEPA-filter that will assist those who suffer from allergies. Additionally it has a powerful battery which can clean for up to two hours and it automatically returns to its dock once its bin is full.

Smart mapping is a different feature that allows it to identify areas in your home that require attention, and then creates a cleaning path to get around them. We've seen this technology in action and it does a good job of maneuvering around toys that are abandoned on the floor or furniture legs that stick out from under the furniture. It also has a camera that will snap the Roomba back to its original position when it starts to drift from its intended location.

iRobot has also included a set of rollers underneath the Roomba that don't have bristles and are therefore more likely to withstand the tangles that previous models. They're also a bit taller than older rollers, and will fit better under low couches and beds and are designed to allow this model to move more easily on varying flooring kinds.

The Roomba 980 stands out from other models with a high-end price tag by its new dirt detection feature, which uses a camera in order to detect dirt embedded. This is a nice improvement over the previous version which relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage method to bounce around a room and clean everything at least three times from different angles.

The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on both carpets and hard floors. It scored extremely well on low-pile carpet and also on mid-pile. It was successful in picking up pet hair but struggled with long and thick pet hair that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the most efficient robots in our list despite the minor drawbacks. It's also less expensive than other top-of-the-line models. It has many of the features we would expect from a top model, but doesn't come with all the fancy apps or smart home integrations you'll find in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba can be set up quickly and is ready for use immediately. After taking off the pull tab for the battery and yellow bin insert from undercarriage, all that you need to do is plug it into its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, hit its large "Clean" button and let it get to work. It will automatically return to its dock when its battery runs out or it's full of debris, and it has indicator lights on the top to indicate when its bin is full or it's time to recharge or its Wi-Fi signal is not working.
