How to Find a Fiat 500 Spare Key

Fiat's classic Fiat 500 has become a symbol since its relaunch in 2007. The company is now launching an aggressive campaign to other powertrains by launching a mild hybrid version.

Replacing the key fob battery on the Fiat 500 is straightforward and inexpensive. It takes around 10 days for the key to be received from the Fiat main dealer.

Fault Diagnosis

The key fob has an electronic chip that communicates with your Fiat's immobiliser system to ensure that only authorized cars are able to start the engine. If the transponder chip on your key fob is damaged, it will not be able to link up to the immobiliser unit, and this means that your car won't start.

It is possible to repair the key fob of a person who has been broken, as long that the chip isn't physically damaged. A professional locksmith will employ standard techniques used by dealers to repair it quickly.

By using an OBD scanner, it is possible to determine if the fob is still communicating with the receiver module. This is a simple procedure and can provide an initial indication of the root cause. If fiat replacement key fob indicates that communication between the receiver and transmitter modules isn't working it is possible to replace the fob's transmitter. This is a costly solution and should be left to locksmiths.

Dead Coin Battery

A dead coin battery is the most common reason for the key fob not to function. This is a simple fix that only takes only a few minutes. Ensure that the key fob is detected by your vehicle. Then, try pressing the "Lock" or "Unlock" button to test if it responds.

The key fob may not work at all, or only intermittently, if it is out of range. This could be an indication of a damaged circuit board. You'll need to refer to the owner's guide to get instructions on how you can reprogram the keyfob in this situation.

You can change the battery by taking off the mechanical latch on the back of the fob (see the image below). Then, gently pry the edge of the battery holder away from the switch to release the old battery. Then, put a new 3 volt battery # CR2032 into the fob holder with the "+" side facing toward the cover on the rear of the key fob with the "+" side facing down towards the buttons made of rubber.

Water Damage

The key fob isn't waterproof even though it has rubber seals that stop water from getting into the electronic chip. The key fob may be fine with a splash of rain or water from a wash cycle but submerging it in water from the ocean or pool is not recommended.

The key fob has to be reprogrammed if it is exposed to water. This process can be done by following the directions in your owner's manual or by bringing it to a professional auto locksmith or an Fiat dealer.

Another reason why a fob may stop working is because it's out of distance from your car. Key fobs usually have a range of about 30 feet and if they're far from the car, they won't recognize them. To begin with, try getting closer to your vehicle. If this isn't working, you might need to replace the key fob. There are instructions on how to replace the battery in all vehicles either on YouTube or by consulting the owner's guide. If your key fob appears rough and scratched, it's time to replace it.

Faulty Receiver Module

Modern models of Fiat do not require an actual key to start or open the car. The cars are equipped with a remote control that sends an encrypted wireless signal to the car in order to switch the engine off and on. Locksmiths can repair the damaged keyfob. You can leave this task to the experts and save time and money. They can also program the new key for your Fiat.

You will need to give the locksmith some information over the phone when you want a spare Fiat key. You'll need to provide the locksmith details about your car, like the year it was manufactured and the model. This is crucial since the locksmith will require this information to ensure that the new key works with the existing locks.

Not all locksmiths can create replacement keys for Fiat cars. Find a locksmith with a good track record and expertise in the field. This means that you are certain that the new key will work with your car and you won't waste money.

Keys that are not paired

If you have a key fob that has isn't functioning, the most likely reason is a dead coin battery. The key fob comes with metal retaining clips that hold the button cell in place and complete the circuit so when these are worn or loose it can cause contact problems and no power. Replace the battery with one of the same voltage, size and specification, or use a spare.

If the key fob has been submerged in water, it's important to dry it out before re-inserting it. The use of isopropyl alcohol or electronic cleaner is a suitable method to accomplish this. It is also recommended to take the battery off and clean the circuit board prior to replacing it.

If you are unable to find a spare key the best choice is to contact locksmith. A locksmith with the ability to reprogram Fiat transponder keys is able to do this without the need to see the original keys. This is a much faster and less expensive option rather than waiting for the original Fiat key from Italy to arrive. A professional locksmith will have the equipment and tools needed to complete a replacement as fast as is possible.
