A dead battery is the main cause of your Fiat 500 keyfob not locking or unlocking the doors. The key fob is equipped with an internal battery called a coin cell that can quickly deplete when it isn't being frequented enough. If car key cover fiat 500 is beginning to show signs of a loss of range or has stopped functioning and the battery is not working, it could be dead.

Metal clips keep the battery in place within the key fob. If the clips aren't tightly secured, they could result in problems with the contact, which can stop your remote to receive power. Using a small flathead screwdriver, pull the clip that holds the retaining pin open to remove the current battery and then insert a fresh one. Choose a battery that is the same size, voltage and specification as the original.

The key fob may also be damaged or corroded by water exposure. Even a small bath in warm, soapy water could damage the chip. It is best to keep your key fob in a dry environment.

Water Damage

If your key fob isn't operating properly, it could be due to water damage. Key fobs are fitted with rubber seals to protect them from being damaged by rain or splashes of water, however it is crucial to keep your keys away from the ocean, pool, and the washing machine!

The key fob comes with an electronic chip which sends an immobilizer system in your car. The chip is what allows the 500 to start and lock. If it gets wet it will not work.

If you're trying to determine if your key fob is functional you can clean the internal electronics with isopropyl or electronic cleaner. However, it's recommended to purchase a replacement from a dealership rather than trying to repair the key fob which was submerged in salt water.

This task is far simpler than it appears and there are step-by-step instructions on the internet for nearly any car key fob.
